Family and Baby Portrait Session Moved Inside Due to Rain

By Andrew Hughes, child phtotography, family portraits, Jason Caponi, Masqueman Photography, Studio
It’s been another year and it was time to update the Caponi family photos. The kids are growing up fast so it is important to catch them before they become teenagers. Outside was rainy and gross so we moved the photoshoot inside for different styles of portraits.
Little Michael is a beautiful bouncing baby boy. Look at those huge eye and reddish-blonde hair!
Michael’s grandparents are from the Gulf Shores so the shirt is a nod to them. He is already standing, and at the current rate of growth, he will probably be running his first half-marathon next year.

Jason is a wonderful Dad, but you can see that he literally has his hands full.

Just the boys of the family pose for portrait.

Alessandra is such a beautiful little lady. Here are two similar photos. I just changed the background and modified the poses to provide more choices for the parents.

Look at that smile with all her front teeth which is not always the case with kids her age.

Alessandra had been taking tap lessons so we wanted a photo of her outfit before she outgrows it.

Here she is showing off a very special gift that her Nonna gave her. Nona was her grandmother who absolutely adored her. I have rarely seen such a close connection between 2 people of different generations. You can read more about Nonna here.

I think she is a natural in front of the camera.

Here she is wearing her Sunday dress. I’m just crazy about this little girl.

And here she is monkeying around for the camera.

Baby Michael has so many expressions and most of them hilarious. His smile lights up the room and would melt even the most Scrooge-like grump.

Another portrait of the men of the house. I like to make comparison photos when kids are so small. Here you can see that Michael’s feet are not even as big as one of Dad’s fingers.
A revealing “behind-the-scenes” look shows that the photo shoot was a group effort. Even big sis was helping Michael find his smile. Mom was over my shoulder making all kinds of funny sounds to get the kids’ attention. Considering that shooting indoors was PLAN B, everything worked out fine.

Time to Say Goodbye to Nonna

By Jason Caponi, Masqueman Photography, memorial
As a photographer, I believe that I am a keeper of sacred images. As hokey as that sounds, you never know which will be the last frame you will snap of someone you love or another family’s cherished matriarch.
This was the case of Joan Mitchell Jenkins who passed away this week after several years of fighting life-threatening diseases. I would like to celebrate what I knew about her.
When I met Joan, she was already battling debilitating health issues. This was extremely difficult for her, but I never heard her complain about it.  Instead what I saw was a complete dedication to her daughter’s family including a special granddaughter.
I have rarely seen such devotion to grandchildren (excluding my own Mother who is at the top of the heap). Joan loved little Alessandra fiercely and it brought her great joy to be with her.
Over the years, I would take photos of little Alessandra and Nonna would often be there.  Some of my favorite photos are from her first birthday. These two share the same look.
To get all three generations of women together was incredible. Alessandra was teething and it would have taken hot sauce on her fingers to keep her hands out of her mouth, but it does not matter. The moment was recorded.
The last photo I took of Nonna and Alessandra together was ironically on the day before my own father died. This weighed heavily on me as I took this last photo of the two together… not knowing if there would be another opportunity like this.
Nonna probably would hate being seen in her pink cap and oxygen lines, but to me, this photo is a powerful reminder of how her world revolved around her granddaughter. Maybe this will become a reminder to an older Alessandra when she thinks about her Nonna.

Photos for Performance Audio & Video

By Atlanta, Elan G, Home Automation, Jason Caponi, Performance AV
My buddy, Jason, is what I would call a master installer of audio/video equipment in people’s homes and businesses. From simple television installation to full home automation systems, he can do it all. His installations are so clean and neat that it can make photographing his finished work a challenge. The photos below looks like a regular rooms, but they are completely wired for video, audio and home automation… and it does not stick out like a sore thumb.

On closer inspection, you may start to see the speakers in the walls and ceiling. It’s only when you see an interface from an iPad, television or wall module do you realize that you can control any media device or home system with the swipe of your finger. Pretty cool.

If you need expert AV installation and personable service, give Jason a call or check out his web site at www.PerformanceAVatlanta.com. You can also check out past articles about Performance Audio and Video here: past articles.

Portrait of a Good Father

By babies, Jason Caponi, portrait photography, portraits

Sometimes my favorite portraits happen when I am not exactly ready for them. I call these instances “happy accidents”. For example, I was using Jason as a stand in while I got my lights dialed in for a series portraits of his family. This first photo was taken with a single diffused flash and no fill which gives it a dramatic look.

It is the times when the subjects are not expecting you to click the shutter that they are the most relaxed, and you see their true personality. I was able to capture this quiet moment between a new dad and a baby who is his favorite little girl. You can’t fake moments like this.

Going From “Stone Age” to “Space Age” Television

By av, Jason Caponi, Performance AV

I have often taken a lot of good natured ribbing about my slow adoption of technology. Back in the day, when everyone else was getting a cell phone, I bought a beeper. When most people were on their second flat screen tv, my wife and I were still watching a 100 lb. tube style behemoth. I drove a 14 year old beater with peeling paint and a leaky trunk probably a few years longer than I should have. If it’s not broke, why fix it was my motto. The only thing that I have never skimped on is camera gear, because you truly get what you pay for.

When it is time to buy some new technological device, I find my self going from dusty antique to shiny new super gadget overnight. For me, it is almost the equivalent of traveling to the future to see how humans will be using devices ten years from now. I agonize over these major purchases… spending untold hours researching and discovering what the best product is for me. That is part of the fun of being on a budget…you are forced to look at cost/value relationships, and wait for the right time to buy.

This is how I came to the point of buying a new 3D flat screen television to replace our “old school” cabinet tv. My buddy, Jason of Performance AV, did the honors of transporting our living room into the future with a wall mounted TV, and a component rack with hidden wires in the wall. We could not be happier with it. You can see the time lapse video below.

Time Lapse Video of TV Installation

By av, installation, Jason Caponi, Performance AV, tvguy.net

Performance Audio and Video is a company in Atlanta, GA that installs flat panel televisions and audio video equipment. I have known Jason Caponi, the owner of the company, for many years. He is an excellent mechanic and guru of all things that require precision.

Last year he officially started installing flat screen televisions and related audio visual equipment in people homes. The business took off and he didn’t look back. Below is the stop motion videos that I made for him of an installation in my boss’s “mancave”.

This installation included use of a special 90 degree wall mounted bracket that allows the tv to be watched from straight ahead where the pool table is or from the extreme right where the couch is.

If you need a tv installed or custom AV work, check him out and give him a call. His website is www.tvguy.net
