Zombie Transformation Caught on Film

By Andrew Hughes, Halloween, humor, Masqueman Photography, time lapse, Walking Dead, zombie
Fans of The Walking Dead have seen plenty of zombies. Usually they are shown in a state of decay just long enough to get their heads smashed in by the heroes of this popular TV series.
But, after watching every episode, I don’t think I have ever seen a zombie transformation. For the first time EVER, this unseen event has been captured with time lapse photography. It’s not a pretty sight either. If you are easily frightened, turn your eyes away now.
Apparently, the pre-zombie being grows a wild beard and his teeth turn into hideous bucktooth fangs. If you don’t believe me, just watch the video evidence. It’s got to be true if it’s on the internet, right? See the link zombie video here.

Watching Fall Leaves

By Fall colors, time lapse

Have you ever wondered how leaves change their colors? We all have seen trees that go from green to gold to brown in a matter of days, but how do the individual leaves actually make that transition? That was what I was wondering when I set up a little experiment using a scanner and some leaves collected in the yard.

My process was to scan the leaves daily and then make a time-lapse movie of the transformation. If I was being totally scientific, I would have scanned them at exact intervals of time. I got busy during the week and skipped a day or two, but one can clearly see the amazing transformation.

Each leaf represents a specific kind of tree and each changes differently from the others. All of them seem to lose moisture and dry up. Some whither a little and others a lot. One even seems to rot pretty quickly. If I was a scientist I would be interested in the structure of the leaf, the water content, bacteria or microbes present etc. Since I am not, I’ll just marvel at nature’s beauty.

128 Corporate Headshot Portraits

By corporate photography, head shots, portraits, time lapse

Finally, the shooting was over. It took 6 days to shoot 128 corporate portraits on location at a large Atlanta corporation. The actual photography could have been done faster, but it was best to offer time slots to accommodate the busy schedules of so many people.

I shot these with my camera tethered to my computer so the subjects could see their photos and help chose the best photo. If there was extra time between subjects, I would retouch photos on the spot. This made me popular with some of the people who had special retouching requests.

To celebrate the end of this large job, I made a simple time-lapse movie of deconstructing my portable portrait studio. This video also shows the last person being photographed too.
