The Wedding of Angie and Eric

By Atlanta, photography, web site design, wedding

The big wedding day had finally come for Angie & Eric Scissom. I had met these two earlier in the year when I took their engagement photos. Now we were back in the same exact place for their wedding ceremony and reception.

It was an outside wedding, and the temperatures were anything but typical for mid September. It seems that summer wanted to hang out like a drunk who doesn’t know when to leave your house party. It was over 90 degrees that day and extremely humid. I soaked 3 shirts, and I felt a few pounds lighter when I got home. I was hoping not to get heat exhaustion.

I tend to go into high gear when working a wedding especially if I do not have a second shooter with me, and I try to be everywhere at once. To make  a long story short, the wedding went beautifully, the reception was wonderful and the spirits of everyone involved were high. Here are a few of my favorite photographs from that day.

The Colors of Fall 2010

By Atlanta, Fall colors, photography

Every year I make a habit of enjoying the incredible fall colors of Atlanta. I am amazed at the combination of hues that come and go in just a few weeks. Here are a few photos taken right behind the studio.

This last one was taken with my iphone which exaggerated the blue in the asphalt.

Haunted Ghost Tour in Oakland Cemetery

By Atlanta, Ghosts, Halloween, history, Oakland Cemetery
My wife and I were invited to participate in one of Atlanta’s coolest yearly events… the historic ghost tour in Oakland Cemetery. In my opinion this is one of the most peaceful and beautiful places in the city. Unlike today’s fields of fake flowers, this one has amazing sculptures, monuments and mausoleums. And it has almost 70,000 souls buried there.
We arrived right before sunset which is the perfect time to see Atlanta’s buildings and grave markers blend together into some ghosty city.

The view changed by the second as the sun raced towards the horizon.
Some of the mausoleums were open giving a rare glimpse inside.
The moon was rising over the city at the same time. I should also mention that all of these photos were taken with my phone. I left my camera at the house so I could be social and not “on the job”.
We were met my the “ghosts” of six people buried in there. They told us their stories and how they each got to where they are today. Some of the stories were funny, and others sad.
Each one was a real breathing person once, now words to read on a stone.
The guide told us that it is said people die three times. Once on their last breath, once when they are laid to rest and the final time when they are no longer remembered.
Some people may find this place scary or creepy, but I do not. To me, these are monuments to loved ones, friends and family. We already plan to make this a yearly event.
Did the dead know were were there? Did they see us visiting?
I may have seen a ghost on the way out… What do you think?

Pregnancy and Family Portraits in Stone Mountain Park

By Atlanta, family, portrait photography, Stone Mountain Park
Making portraits in new locations is always an adventure and challenge for me. I love discovering new settings to take pictures of my clients. You never know what a place may look like until you try it… and many times I get surprised.
This portrait session took place in Stone Mountain Park, Georgia, which is conveniently a short drive from my studio. There are good photographic locations hiding around every corner, and it will take a few months for me to explore the place. Good thing I bought a year-long pass.

I have been taking photos of the Josh and Michelle’s family for many years, and slowly they keep adding to their numbers.

Currently, they have a 2 year old daughter, and are about to add a son to the mix.

We decided to get a few belly photos for Michelle and Josh so they could remember this happy time before another big change in their lives.

At the time we had limited window of opportunity, because the doctors said Michelle could have Josh Jr. any day now. In fact, the little guy was born 2 days ago.

Luckily we got through our session before that happened and before their little girl, Danielle, even realized it was nap time. She was a trooper!

Senior Photos of Kimberly In Piedmont Park

By Atlanta, Piedmont Park, portraits, senior portraits

As a photographer, there are days when everything goes right, and I feel that I am making the photos want to be taking. This was the case when I had the chance to take young Kimberly’s senior photos.

I first met Kimberly when she was around 13 or 14, and I thought it would be fun to make her portrait one day.

Her father hired me to give her some memorable photos of her last year in high school.

Kids at this age are fun, enthusiastic and enviously skinny. I remember being 120 lbs. in high school, and being able to eat anything I wanted without penalty, but those days are long gone which is too bad.

We took these photos in Piedmont Park in the early morning when the light was fantastic. The summer heat had disappeared, and it was chilly when we started.

I have a lot of experience shooting at that location in the evening, but the mornings there are magical too.  The park looks totally different.

Fall had not yet come to the park so I had to work hard to find any fall foliage there. I think I saw 3 trees changing colors, but that was enough.

I had better quit posting before this entry gets too long. To see the rest of Kimberly’s Senior Portrait Gallery, click here…

BannerstandExpo.com and Presentech.com Get a Major Update!

By Atlanta, Presentech, service burea, trade show, web site design

Presentech Advanced Print Solutions is an innovative service bureau in Atlanta, GA that specializes in small and large format color printing. I have personally used them for over 15 years (man, I’m old!), and they have constantly improved their service, products, machinery and lowered their prices. I never worry about them delivering stellar results that my clients will love. They provide some of the best values in the country for trade show displays which is a market they have been concentrating on for the past few years.

They have 2 different web sites that I have produced. www.Presentech.com has all their products and services, and www.BannerStandExpo.com concentrates on trade show signage and displays. Both web sites cater to different markets, with the latter planned to be self-serve e-commerce. I recently added 50 pages to the trade show display sections of both sites and reorganized all of the products that they offer. This was a huge improvement in ease-of-use for the end-users.

The Future of DSLR Video Could Get Exciting

By Atlanta, Carl Zeiss Lens, Red Rock Micro, Showcase Photo and Video, Video DSLR

Now that I have 2 cameras capable of producing HD quality video, I thought I’d venture to Showcase Photo and Video in Atlanta to take advantage of a video seminar that was being given there. The seminar was put on by Canon and I found it to be informative and full of useful information. It definitely gave me more to consider the next time I pick up my camera to make a video.

Other vendors were on hand as well selling their DSLR video wares such as RedRock Micro who makes fantastic but pricey rigs to hold your camera during video shooting. I was a little put off by the sales rep’s attitude who said anything they offered under $1000 is just for amateurs. Phooey! That’s a bad attitude and they should tap into the budding amateur and indy market more than they are. Make the rigs cheaper and sell more to the masses.

Carl Zeiss was also present, and they had beautiful cinematic style lenses specifically designed for DSLRs, and had the size and familiar functionality of top end movie lenses… They came in a wide range of focal lengths for directors to use. Expensive… yes, but a relative bargain compared to the lenses and camera systems previously used to make television shows and movies.

Engagement Photos for Angie & Eric

By Atlanta, engagement photography, photography
The Fourth for July started off for me with an engagement photo session for Angie and Eric. Angie is the little sister of my friend Josh and his wife Michelle.

They have made plans to get married in the Fall at Josh & Michelle’s house so they wanted to have their engagement photos taken there too.

More specifically the main photo needed to happen around the the waterfall and fish pond in the front yard because the wedding ceremony will take place there in the near future.

Their yard was in bloom which is great considering that mine withered weeks ago. If somebody wanted a photoshoot to look like they were visiting a desert, my back yard would be the perfect place to do it. Considering the photos were shot in a small residential yard, I am pretty happy with the way they turned out.

We had a great time with a lot of good-natured joking and I could tell that these two really love each other which makes my job more enjoyable.

Head Shots of Atlanta Doctors

By Atlanta, corporate photography, Graphic Works, headshot portraits, photography, portraits

I was hired by a long time client at Graphic Works to shoot headshot portraits of 16 doctors in 3 different hospitals in the Atlanta area. Painstaking efforts were taken to ensure that all of the portraits looked like they were taken in the same studio on the same day, instead of 3 different times and locations. This was accomplished with a low-tech tape measure, pen and paper.

I really enjoy this kind of work because I get to meet a lot of different personalities in  a short period of time. You can see this and other corporate photography at my new site promoting my corporate photography services… launching soon!
